Fu-Schnickens-Old School Wednesday

Fu-Schnickens had mad style straight lyrical and on point. With funny methaphors and wicked beats. They were one of the hype groups out there.

The Fu-Schnickens were an American hip-hop trio. Similar to Das EFX for their cartoonish lyrics and near-constant allusions to pop culture staples, the Fu-Schnickens' popularity was brief but significant in hip hop history. Their best known track is 1993's "What's Up Doc? (Can We Rock)," featuring basketball star Shaquille O'Neal, which was a Top 40 hit.

Don Cornelius Arrested

LOS ANGELES – Don Cornelius, the former host of the television show "Soul Train," was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence, police said Saturday.

Police were called to his Hollywood Hills home late Friday after someone reported a domestic dispute, Officer Sam Park said.

The 72-year-old producer was taken to jail, where he was booked for investigation of felony domestic violence, Park said. He was released on $50,000 bail and ordered to appear in court next month.

Park said he did not know whom Cornelius was suspected of assaulting.

A call to Cornelius' production office was not immediately returned.

Cornelius started "Soul Train" in 1970 to showcase black music and culture, introducing television audiences to such legendary artists as Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye and Barry White. The series spawned a franchise that includes the Soul Train Music Awards, the Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards and the Soul Train Christmas Starfest.

Cornelius stepped down as "Soul Train" host in 1993.

Kanye West Invites 40 Naked Ladies for Launch Party.Publicity Stunt?

Kanye West caused a stir at the launch party of his eagerly anticipated album '808s and Heartbreak' by inviting 40 naked women to attend. The rapper unveiled the album - due to be released in November at a lavish bash at Los Angeles' Ace Gallery, but guests were stunned to find the room full of nude women wearing masks.

"After waiting in an area with an open bar and a DJ, we walked up a driveway illuminated by fluorescent lights to a darkened room where we saw 40 nude women. Most of them were wearing strange masks made of wool," the Sun quoted a source, as saying. "They stood in the middle of the room - black girls at the front and white girls at the back. Then the entire album played without any introduction or explanation," the source added.

West insists the women were part of an arranged art show he masterminded with Italian artist Vanessa Beecroft.

"Here is the 3 song to drop from Kanye's upcoming album 808s and Heartbreak. Pardon the quality it's a radio rip..."

Magic Johnson responds to Fake AIDS aligations

Earvin “Magic” Johnson is speaking out against two conservative radio hosts in Minnesota who suggested last week that his HIV is fake.

“We can’t have people out here making false statements and putting out bad information, because this battle is too big when it comes to HIV and AIDS,” Johnson told The Associated Press regarding the remarks of Chris Baker and Langdon Perry of KTLK in Minneapolis.

“I poured my life into it and a lot of other people have poured their life into it, into getting out the right information so people can protect themselves and know what HIV and AIDS is all about.”

Although Johnson called the remarks “so stupid,” he also said he wants the hosts to keep their jobs stating: “I would rather they educate their audience.”

According to a partial transcript and audio clip posted on mediamatters.org, the remarks came after a caller asserted that health care isn’t a basic right. Perry responded by asking about treatable diseases that a person can live with for a long time “if you just get some basic drugs.”

Baker responded, “Like Magic Johnson?”

Perry replied, “Like Magic with his faked AIDS. Magic faked AIDS.”

Baker said, “You think Magic faked AIDS for sympathy?”

Perry replied, “I’m convinced that Magic faked AIDS.”

“Me too,” Baker said.

KTLK’s apology statement said it recognized the seriousness of AIDS and the “great work” Johnson has done to call attention to the disease.

“We regret that some offhand remarks by commentators on KTLK did not reflect that,” the statement said. “To better inform our listeners and employees, KTLK will be airing HIV/AIDS awareness public service announcements, and will be reaching out to Mr. Johnson to get his thoughts on education efforts.”

Johnson, who was diagnosed with HIV in 1991, said his health is “wonderful.” He also noted that he has HIV, not AIDS.

“You have incredible drugs now,” he said. “I’m working out every day.”

John Lennon:The songwriter, The peace maker and A Legend.

Today is The One of my most influential artist of all time. His name is John Lennon. John Winston Ono Lennon, MBE (born John Winston Lennon; 9 October 1940 You all must know Lennon. If not 1/4th of The Beatles. Best song writer of his time. I didn't live through the 60's and 70's but it feels like it right now. Two Thousand Eight is War, Economic Crisis, more War and a new president. I hate to bring the election in to this because it's a Lennon piece.

He would have been 68 today. I ask would he want to live this long? I don't know to see the progress he once sang about but as well see US History repeat it's self.I first heard Lennon from my mom and uncle. It put hope, love and tears into my eyes. He's a icon like a King, Kennedy, Che, and Romero. Lennon had words so strong and real it told stories. I am glad you came into our lives a left your mark with hope, love and peace. Your music is a blessing and will not get old. Thank you...

Happy Birthday John Winston Ono Lennon

Jonzun Crew-Old School Wednesday

Jonzun Crew was a seminal electro group, led by Michael Jonzun and featuring his brothers Maurice Starr and Soni Jonzun, and also featuring Carl, aka Captain Fingers. Their most famous tracks, from the debut album, were “Pack Jam (Look out for the OVC)” and “Space Cowboy.” Other notable tracks include “We Are the Jonzun Crew” and “Ground Control.” In 1986, Michael Jonzun left the group to pursue a solo career.[citation needed]

“Pack Jam (Look out for the OVC)” was often played in the background, during the early '80s, while the rundown of top hits in Germany were observed in the German-language Top Hits show "Formel Eins".

What's Electro-Hop.The Electrobeat Crew.

The Electro-hop movement on the West Coast started around 1984 and ended around late 86, early 87.

Lonzo Williams was one of the early DJS on the west coast and many consider him the godfather of the west coast hip-hop who contributed to helping into ushering the electro-hop scene on the west coast. His Eve After Dark nightclub was important to the future of west coast hip-hop and was pivtal in creating the careers of Dr Dre and DJ Yella along with a lot of other west coast hip-hop talent getting noticed. The nightclub is also famous for being the place where Eazy E met experienced rock manager Jerry Heller who was interested in the underground electro-hop movement who in that period managed World Class Wreckin Cru, Egyptian Lover and a few others. The meeting of Jerry Heller and Eazy E which led to their partnership and the formation of Ruthless Records and the rise of gangsta rap.

The acts who represented electro-hop on the West Coast were artists such as Egyptian Lover, LA Dream Team, World Class Wreckin Cru, The Unknown DJ and even some early of Ice-T's records before he fully glorified gangsta rap the hip-hop genre that would become the main trademark of the West Coast that would help to overthrow the East Coast in popularity. Early Ice Cube records when he was in the group C.I.A. who get the attention of Dr Dre and would perform dirty raps together at organised parties. Other artists who represented the electro-hop scene such as Chris "The Glove" Taylor and Uncle Jamms Army

All artists typically blended a fusion of electronic music popularised by electronic pioneers Kraftwerk as well as using elements of the electro scene that was dominated by their East Coast counterparts using some elements of old-school hip-hop typically party-jam based lyrics along with some love-ballad influenced sounds with more emphasis on a heavy bass sound than their East Coast and Southern counterparts particularly used by the more popular electro-hop acts of that 1984-1986 period World Class Wreckin Cru.

The World Class Wreckin Cru's most well-known and best selling song Turn Off The Lights was a slow-moving electro ballad that would do reasonably well on the mainstream charts and helped electro-hop gain some if brief but moderate mainstream success. This was produced by Dre and Yella before they left the World Class Wreckin Cru over money disputes.

By the late 1980s the electro-hop movement seemed to fade into eternal darkness as a new hard-hitting, street-based, gun-touting, profanity-filled, controversial new hip-hop genre was stirring on the West Coast which was gangsta rap pioneered by Ice-T and popularised by controversial and amazingly influential gangsta rap group NWA. Although artists such as Arabian Prince who at one time was a founding member of the NWA and Lonzo Williams the founder of the World Class Wreckin Cru released a solo album Phases In Life after Dr Dre and DJ Yella left the World Class Wreckin Cru to join NWA were still bringing out electro-hop music. The Unknown DJ like Dr Dre and Yella would embrace the gangsta rap genre producing for gangsta rap artists such as Comptons Most Wanted, The D.O.C, JJ Fad, Above The Law and would reinvent hip-hop and change the landscape of hip-hop forever.

LA Dream Team- Old School Wed electro-rap

The LA Dream Team were a hip-hop group based in Los Angeles, California, active 1985-1989, 1993, and 1996. They are known for being one of the early hip-hop acts on the West Coast and one of the pioneers of the West Coast electro-hop scene.

The founder of the LA Dream Team, Rudy Pardee, was born in Cleveland, Ohio on June 29, 1957,[citation needed] and later moved to California. He later met Chris "Snake Puppy" Wilson, who was also interested in similar music. They began to experiment with creating music and together they took elements of the hip-hop electro scene on the East Coast to the West Coast. A third member, Miss Rockberry, was later added.

Pardee and Wilson also formed their own record label, Dream Team Records. Dream Team Records cut a deal with Macola Records to bring out some of the early West Coast rap records such as the LA Dream Team's The Dream Team Is In The House and Rockberry Jam.

By 1986, as electro was faced with some mainstream coverage, the group began to fade into history as gangsta rap on the West Coast began to rise. LA Dream Team managed to release three albums - Kings Of The West Coast (1985) Bad To The Bone (1986) and Back To Black (1989) - on the MCA label.

O.J Simpson Got Fucked! Wrongful!Re-trial

As we all know O.J Simpson was in court again for robbery and kidnapping. He got charged with it as well got life for it. It's a violent crime. They did have a vendetta against him, the Judge too as well as the D.A. Who picked an all White Jury nothing wrong with white people but you got Vegas low market on housing, variety on different races. There's not 1 Asian, Middle Eastern, Hispanic, and African- American who had Jury Duty. When you were selecting the Jury. I find that hard to believe. Here's a picture of the jury . Do they look down with Obama, Samy Davis Jr, James Brown, or Kanye? Hell no! The jury in the O.J. Simpson kidnapping case have taken the unusual step of speaking out, giving a press conference to deny their guilty verdict was to punish the former American football star for ‘past wrongs’. Bullshit! Why a press Conference Guilty of something?

Here's what they had to say:

Juror Teresa Owens said any suggestion that the jury found Simpson guilty because of the verdict 13 years ago was "terrible."

"There's reports right now that we've had some kind of vendetta against Mr. Simpson for ... 13 years ago," she said. "That in no way had anything to do with this case whatsoever."

Mr Connelly said the Nicole Brown and Ronald Goldman murder trial "never came up" during their deliberations in the kidnapping case.

One panellist, Dora Pettit, said she prayed for Mr Simpson before and after the case.

“I think he's an ordinary man that made a bad decision,” she said. “I prayed for him and Stewart and the attorneys. I don't have any ill feelings, and if they walked out tomorrow, so be it.”

Ms Pettit also hit out at reports that the all-white jury was racially biased towards the two black defendants.

“We've been painted as an all-white jury who hates OJ, and that's just not true,” Pettit said.

You guys seem very guilty of something. Being races. Holding a grudge or mad that he had a fair trial 13 years ago and was found NoT Guilty. It made you jurors, Judge and the D.A mad, upset and dissapointed. He deserves a fair trial.

I found this info on a site. Had to talk shit.

Jade Yoker
Jade had a problem, when the director of his football movie Gridiron gang asked him to wear O.J. Simpson’s number 32 jersey.
Jade Yorker is in love with Leona Lewis.
O.J. Simpson
Jade Yorker 13 not 32
Throughout O.J. Simpson’s career in football, he wore the number 32 on his jersey. Jade was asked to wear number 32 in his last movie with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, but refused and instead wore the number 13.

Huh? Are you serious.

Jade Yoker? Who the fuck is he? A washed up fool who thinks wearing number 32 is gonna effect his Hollywood Career. That shit is wack as fuck! I say a black man saying no because "Jade wants people to remember him for his movie career and his upcoming music career with Grammy winning producer Rock Wilder, and not for wearing O.J. Simpson’s number 32 jersey." May I say that you are being fake, a pussy and funny. You probably listen to rap too. Or you listen to Hannah Montana because it's positive music. LOL I don't want to be known as the guy wearing a OJ jersey. Damn funniest shit I ever read.If you do listen to rap I hope there's no cusing, sex, and violent metaphors. Wal-Mart!

Henry Rollins Paste Interview

Henry Rollins speaks not in drops and dribbles. When he opens his month, torrents of declarations spill out that condemn and praise in turns, ventriloquizing voices to buoy as well as others to deride.
From 1981 to 1986, Rollins fronted California punk band Black Flag. Since then, he's continued in music with the Henry Rollins Band, but has focused much of his energy in different sorts of endeavors, including spoken word tours (he's on one currently), TV programs, radio shows and film roles. And Rollins recently filmed five (that's right, five) documentaries. Investigations into the failures of government to clean up the Lower Ninth Ward after Katrina, lingering racism in South Africa and continuing religiously motivated violence in Ireland were produced for the Independent Film Channel, while two others—one on Burma and the other, shot in Thailand, about worldwide hunger and famine—round out the list.

When Paste had the chance to pick the man's brain recently, Rollins was full to bursting with commentary, giving background on not only his upcoming documentaries, but also the dangers he sees in abject anger, how America must realize the role arts play in culture and why music is doing well, even if nobody can expect it to save us from ourselves.

Paste: What's the story behind these documentaries? Why these, now?
Rollins: They're all pretty eye-opening. When you see the devastation that people are living in the Lower Ninth Ward 100 billion dollars later, you kind of start wondering where the hell did all that money go? Which leads to the bigger conversation of, well, it's the failure of government. Well, the failure of the Bush government, which is, in some people's opinion, a purposeful failure... And so all of these things lead to bigger conversations, of course, and that's hopefully what the documentaries do. They start the conversation.

In Northern Ireland it was intense when you learn that the troubles from the '70s haven't really cooled down much. It's still very much a part of daily life there. So we tried to get a bit of that into the documentary by interviewing people from Sinn Féin, people from the IRA, people from the Unionist Separatists, Catholics, Protestants. And the conversation is still very vigorous there. It's not a sweeping topic. It's very much alive. People there are very, very passionate on either side. And we went in there extremely neutral. That's what we did.

Paste: I was watching some of the "Letters from Henry" videos that you do on The Henry Rollins Show, and there seems to be this note of incredulity there, a shift from a more 1980s-era punk answer that was more angry than incredulous.
Rollins: I try to approach the thing and leave some room for others to think about it. I'm not necessarily angry, but I'm looking for answers. With nothing but sheer anger, you cut off a lot of options. I'm not saying that anger isn't useful. I'm a pretty angry person. But anger that closes doors, well, there you are with your arms cut off. You don't have recourse. So a lot of those letters are basically a "what the fuck moment" for me... And you can be quite insightful and quite biting when you don't pull out your blades, when you let your opponent fall on his own sword by leading him to it. And I don't really want to do something like what I did in the '80s because I know more now. I wouldn't want to be regressive or want to be mad for the sake of it. Because that's just flailing around. That's how you get marginalized very quickly.

Paste: So if your goal is to no longer be thrashing around and angry all the time, is there a role that you think music is playing now that's different than in the 1980s? I heard, for instance, that you're a fan of Deerhoof.
Rollins: I heard the new album, Offend Maggie, over the weekend. Maggie sent it to me a few days ago. And I like it a lot. Some of the drum sounds I still have to listen to and understand. I called her to ask if I could play some of it on my radio show, and she agreed, so I think I'm going to play "Buck and Judy." ... They do what a band should do. They do a thing and they keep reinventing the thing. You scratch your head and wonder "How did they pull that off?" Sonically, it's interesting, one of the cool little gems of a find if you're a music fan. I try and listen to a fairly wide spectrum. There's a lot out there. You know, when people say that music is boring or whatever, that's not right. Music is so happening right now, you have to kind of run to keep up with it.

Paste: Have there been any other bands you've gotten excited about recently?
Rollins: I'm a big fan of the American Tapes label. But that's very hard to keep a grip on that because you blink your eyes and they've released three records, all of which are limited edition, all sold at one show. So you have to follow in drips and drops on eBay, which I do. I listen to a lot of Wolf Eyes, Dead Machines, other bands like Yellow Swans, Hair Police, I pay attention to all that stuff, which is really interesting. The new Mae Shi record, which I've had for a while, basically [HLLYH] is Hell Yeah, it's a great record. And I have To Hit Armor Class Zero, Terrorbird, the one they did with Rapider Than Horsepower. I really like them. There's a lot of good music. I champion labels like Kill Rock Stars and 5RC and Dischord; these are labels that are doing really great stuff, really innovative stuff. They're keeping the flame of integrity and music alive, where the majors are...The Pussycat Dolls or something? It's nothing that's ever going to draw me, you know. Avril Lavigne? Long may she wave, I'm just not in that camp. But music is doing fine—that's the nice thing you find out. There's so much good stuff happening, you have to do all that you can to keep up.

Paste: You sound pretty optimistic about the state of music and the effect that your work can have on things.
Rollins: I don't know if I'm optimistic. I'm confrontationalist. In that, I hope to do some good. I don't know if music has ever achieved anything past appealing to the people that it appeals to. If a song could stop a war, then Bob Marley and Bob Dylan songs would have stopped one or two. So great anthems of peace and freedom and emancipation have already come down the way, and here we are in Iraq. Here we are pushing into Iran, into the Caspian region. So I don't know. Bruce Springsteen went out on behalf of John Kerry last [election], and look who won. I don't know what music really does. That doesn't mean you don't do it. I just don't think that we over-inflate the role that it plays. Perhaps in its absence we would see the real damage. And America is trying to kill off the arts as quickly as it can. The arts in america exist in spite of America, not because of America. Where in Europe, people know damn well that if you kill the culture, you kill the civilization. And so the arts is like a default. Two guys arguing over politics in a bar and then you put on the Stravinsky and everyone goes "Ah, the Stravinsky." And everyone raises their glass. Look at the biggest snob and the lowliest dude on the street, and they open a museum, and everyone's shoulder to shoulder in the new exhibit. Because everyone knows without that you don't have shit.

And in America, everyone goes, "Oh, what?! You drop a crucifix in a jar of urine?" And that's the only art that's ever been created. It was piss-Christ, and that was it. That was end of the NEA [National Endowment of the Arts]. Because you give 'em money and that's what they'll do: they'll piss in a jar and drop a crucifix in it. So fuck 'em. And so the arts have to exist in spite of all that. So arts and entertainment, at a certain level past watching ER, is just in an iron lung. It's these heroic labels, and these cool bands. Guys like Vice Cooler from XBXRX, the guy puts out a record a week. He's just absolutely motivated, but who's his support? He's got me. I'll play his music. But who's going to aid him really? The guy starves month to month trying to get this stuff out, I'm sure. And so the arts have been on the ropes for quite a while, maybe since the McCarthy era. It doesn't make me optimistic. It makes me a kind of an ally in the trenches, keeping things going. Like Woodie Guthrie, on his guitar, at least in one picture, it said "This Machine Kills Fascists." You have to keep mowing them down. It's not going to be one song, one guy, one band after which everyone can afford to be "Ahhhh." You have to kind of vigilantly protect the arts as you do democracy, but optimism is kind of like hope for me. It's a passive state.

The Nintendo Reveals The DSI

Apple CEO Steve Jobs recently said the iPod was the best portable device for gaming. Looks like Nintendo took offense to that. The typically tight-lipped company had a plethora of new announcements today at its simultaneous fall conferences in Japan and the U.S., not the least of which was the introduction of the Nintendo DSi, a remodled version of its DS handheld that features MP3 and camera playback.
The new model hits Japanese stores Nov. 1 but won't come out in the States until late 2009. Priced for the rough equivalent of $180, the new DS will be 12% smaller, and feature slightly larger screens, music playback with an SD card slot for storage, and two 3.0 megapixel digital cameras with the ability to edit pictures using the handheld's signature touch screen. Full compatibility with the older DS games was a given, but missing is the Game Boy Advance slot (which spells trouble for a game like Guitar Hero: On Tour, which uses the GBA slot to connect its guitar peripheral).

Recently named the top game developer in the business, Nintendo seems hellbent on proving itself after only debuting Animal Crossing: City Folk, Wii Music and Wii Sports Resort at its widely-panned E3 conference this past summer. Here's a brief rundown of the top three most significant new Wii and DS game announcements:

1. Punch-Out!!: A Wii incarnation of the venerable NES and SNES classic. It's high time the Wii was treated to a high-quality boxing title (Wii Sports doesn't count), the type of game that should perfectly integrate motion controls. Punch-Out!! is due sometime in the first half of 2009. Now how about a Mario Tennis title?

2. Sin and Punishment 2: A definite surprise, but perhaps it shouldn't have been because the N64 original was the first game Nintendo took the effort to localize for the Wii's Virtual Console. Sin easily fills a niche (shooter games) Nintendo is missing on the Wii...at least until the new Star Fox hits.

3. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time: The Nintendo-only Crystal Chronicles series continues with its fourth installment, this time a sort of DS/Wii hybrid game. Many of its specifics are still unknown, but the game will allow up to four players to play on the DS and Wii at the same time (online, to boot). Sounds interesting, but what about The Crystal Bearers? Is it dead?

Radiohead Remix Reckoner Contest

Its time for us to get spammed out of our minds with every possible remix the Internet can handle. This time around, the remix contest will be held for In Rainbows' "Reckoner" (our favorite from In Rainbows) hosted by... you guessed it, Radiohead themselves.

Once again, remixers who opt to buy each separate track are able to remix it however they please. If you recall, the previous winner was by 'Spor', but should have been the "Nude (Holy Fuck) Remix".

So in the next month, prepare yourself for facebook and Myspace madness. This should be an even bigger turnout than before, especially since they're using a standard 4/4 measurement track. Directions in the message below. Good luck all!

You can download each intrument 'stem' right here on iTunes.

Message from Radiohead:

To coincide with asking radio stations to think about playing Reckoner we are breaking up the tune into pieces for you to remix. After the insane response
we got from the Nude remix stems and the site that was dedicated to your remixes...

Unique visitors: 6,193,776, Page Views: 29,090,134, Hits: 58,340,512, Bandwidth: 10.666 Terabytes, Number of mixes: 2,252, Number of votes: 461,090, Number of track listens: 1,745,304...

We thought it only fair to do the same with a tune that at least is in 4/4. You can get the stems (the different instruments/elements) from here. Sample, cut, take the sounds, whatever. Play it in a club. Or your room. Then if you want you can upload your finished mixes to www.radioheadremix.com and be judged by everyone else.

You can create a widget allowing votes from your own site, Facebook or MySpace to be sent through too.

Have fun.

“we wanted to keep things fresh and we thought the fans would be more excited to get a new song rather than something off the album. Talons is one of the last songs we recorded during the Intimacy sessions and I always had it in mind to be one of the extra tracks we promised for the CD if it turned out well. It turned out great so we decided to make it the next single. I’m enjoying this way of working, not over-thinking things, just make a decision and get on with it! It’s quite liberating in a way, I’m sure it’s going to be the way things happen more and more in the future”
